Here it is:
O. K. friends, here are Sixteen Saints who I'd love to spend time with on a quiet summer afternoon. I've listed eight (8) women and eight (8) men who I would love to get to know better. Many are dead now but these would be my SIXTEEN SAINTS.
WOMEN:
- AMY CARMICHAEL
- ELISABETH ELLIOT (pictured)
- SUSANNA WESLEY
- RUTH BELL GRAHAM
- FANNY CROSBY
- ELIZABETH SKOGLUND
- FRANCES RIDLEY HAVERGAL
- EVANGELINE FISHER (my grandmother)
- JIM ELLIOT
- GEORGE MULLER
- CHARLES HADDON SPURGEON
- D. L. MOODY
- ROBERT CLEAVER CHAPMAN
- BILLY GRAHAM
- ANDREW BONAR
- ROBERT MURRAY M'CHEYNE
- J. HUDSON TAYLOR
Of course I could add 50 more but this would be my list as of now. What about yours?
I'd be curious to read your list of Sixteen (or Seventeen) Saints. Go ahead! Make your list! God bless!
David,
ReplyDeleteDefinitely some crossover - Amy and Elizabeth for sure - also an unnamed woman from the Corinthians church Paul wrote to - lots of questions to ask her about 1 Cor. 11, 12, 13, 14 etc. :O) Also Anne Ross Cousins another great hymn writer, Isabel Kuhn, Noel Piper, Sarah (Abraham's wife), Jonathan Edward's wife Sarah.
Men - George Mueller, Hudson Taylor, Samuel Rutherford, John Calvin, William Carey, Randy Alcorn, a Chinese House church pastor, and I want to think about the last selection.
Jim Elliot is mentioned number one in your Men list. I knew Jim Elliot well when I was a small boy - even living with him and his family for awhile.
ReplyDeleteYou and some of your listeners may be interested to know that a new book has just been released which contains his own words. Like his Journals it really shows his passion and love of his Savior.
The book "JIM ELLIOT: A Christian Martyr Speaks To You" contains transcribed messages which he spoke prior to leaving for the mission field. I was privileged to transcribe and lightly edit the material
May God continue to bless you and your ministry for Him.
I hadn't heard of Chapman. Just read the summary on Wikipedia.
